ALL ABOUT WINE

WINES OF THE WORLD

Argentine Wine

Argentina is the biggest wine-growing country that you've probably never heard of. Which is strange, because they've been making it since the 16th century. Spanish immigrants set up the first Argentinian vineyard and have kept the tradition alive since.

Ninety percent of Argentina's wine is grown in the central-west region. The two largest vine growing regions center round the cities of San Juan and Mendoza.

Argentina is well known for its Cabernet Sauvignons, Merlots and Chenin Blancs. Argentina's prize wine, however is Malbec. Malbec is a variety of Bourdeaux grape that has a slightly more rustic flavor, perfect for lamb, game dishes or anything with grilled mushrooms.

Even more than making the wine, Argentina is the perfect climate for growing the grapes. Argentina's grapes are largely free of fungi, molds and pests-the producers don't need to use harsh chemicals. What this means is that Argentina can produce organic wines of the same quality at a much lower cost than other countries.
