French Wine Regions
France is unique among nations in that it lives and breathes wine. It doesn't make much beer, its most famous liquor is a brandy made of wine grapes (Cognac, to be specific) and grain liquor is almost unknown. By way of compensation, it has more wine regions than we have space for. Here are the ones we recommend:
- Bourdeaux is the world's most prestigious wine region in the world, with more top-quality wineries than anywhere else.
- Burgundy has been a wine producer since the time of the Romans, and is home to some of France's most splendid wins.
- Loire wines are the hardest to generalize about, because this region offers the best variety of any in France
- The South of France is where the Mediterranean meets the Gallic and magic happens.
- And no discussion of French wines would be complete without Champagne
